East of Grand Coulee Dam, Govan is in the dead center of Washington, dead being the operative word. Virtually all that's left is this two-room schoolhouse. I clambered up into it and a huge white barn-owl clattered up to the rafters. The floor was littered with its white and mouse-boney pellets. Through the missing shingles, brilliant sunlight cut through the dusty air.
It's almost as though the place has been completely disowned, Sean. But it must belong to someone?
ReplyDeleteYou've captured the images very nicely
ReplyDeleteWhat awesome photos, how amazing that it is there all on it's own.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Great photos, which inspired me to find our more about Govan. Interesting to see that it is listed as a ghost town and there were many unsolved murders there.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised it is still standing, it must have an interesting history.
ReplyDeleteI thought Govan must be a great place to live...no vandals or fire raisers. But when I checked it out on Google Earth I am not so sure...........the loneliness and monoculture would have driven me away for sure.
ReplyDeleteThat building was constructed with great care and skill. How tragic that it has succumbed to neglect and decay. I wonder what the cause was.
ReplyDeleteThose are some fabulous photos. Love the black and white one the best.

Wonderful photos, but with a tinge of sadness.
